Do you want to try jewelry-making? This weekend workshop is a great place to start. Participants will learn basic metalsmithing techniques such as sanding, sawing, filing, drilling, forming, surface embellishment, soldering, and patination with non-ferrous metals such as copper and brass at the beginning of the workshop. After understanding the materials and tools, participants will make a couple of sterling silver rings on the second day out of sheet and wire. A simple bezel setting to attach a cabochon stone is also introduced. Attend with your friends or family members to make special rings to take home and have a great weekend in the UW-Stout Metals lab Saturday through Sunday. All materials, as well as lunch and snacks on both days, are provided. Individual lodging in a campus dorm for one night is available for additional cost.
