Take a Hike (Literally) at Menomin Park

Looking for a quick nature escape without leaving Menomonie? Menomin Park is your go-to spot. Tucked along the eastern shore of Lake Menomin, this 151-acre park is packed with all the best parts of Wisconsin’s outdoors—woodlands, wetlands, prairie, and picture-perfect lake views.

Originally part of the Dunn County Health Care Center property, this land got a new life as a nature park in 1982. Since then, it’s been restored and rewilded with help from the Wisconsin DNR—more than 30 acres of native prairie grassland have been brought back to life, making it a haven for local wildlife and outdoor lovers alike.

Here’s where it gets really good: Menomin Park features about 10 miles of trails made for hiking, trail running, and mountain biking. Whether you’re in the mood for a peaceful walk or want to break a sweat on a rugged loop, there’s a trail for you. The park’s terrain ranges from thick woods and open fields to marshy lowlands full of cattails—perfect for soaking in nature’s variety.

Thanks to local groups like CORBA (Community for Outdoor Recreation, Biking, and Adventure), the trails are well-maintained and clearly marked. Along the way, you’ll get stunning views of Lake Menomin and might even spot deer, birds, or the occasional turtle.

Need a breather? The park also has picnic shelters and plenty of scenic nooks to kick back, have lunch, or just relax and take it all in. It’s the kind of place where you can recharge without going far, ideal for locals and visitors who want nature without the long drive.

Whether you’re chasing trails, wildlife, or just a breath of fresh air, Menomin Park is a must-visit gem in the Menomonie area.
